This bronze work presents a self-reflective trajectory that evolves a practice into the future. Established as a textile artist, I had previously worked for ten years as a jeweller. Seeking to inject a sense of gravity into my practice, I looked to my jewellery heritage and its hard gems and heavy materials. Embarking on the journey through exploration and play, the forms evolved instead into bronze, a solid, weighty, antidote to tapestry’s warp and weft wrapped around air. Yet in their rigid form, the bronze castings manifest the gentle qualities of woven fibres and bleeding tones. These material translations, grounded and heavy, give a sense of cementing my practice in this visceral world.
